BLM Approves Scorpio Energy’s Geotechnical Work in Lyon County, NV

Scorpio Energy Center Receives Green Light for Site Investigations in Nevada

The Bureau of Land Management’s Sierra Front Field Office has granted permission to Scorpio Energy Center LLC to perform geotechnical site investigations on government-managed lands located near Wabuska, in Lyon County, Nevada. This development marks a crucial step forward for the proposed Scorpio Energy Center project.

The planned investigative work involves drilling three geotechnical borings, conducting up to five cone penetration tests, carrying out three microtremor surveys, and installing up to two groundwater wells reaching depths of about 1,100 feet. All activities will take place on existing unpaved roads, temporarily affecting an area of 1.72 acres.

To minimize environmental impact, the Bureau of Land Management has imposed several protective measures. These include ensuring resource clearances, adhering to bird timing restrictions, and implementing dust and erosion control. Additionally, measures for invasive species prevention, waste management, and site reclamation have been mandated. The environmental review concluded that the project qualifies as a categorical exclusion, indicating that the temporary disturbance will not cause significant impacts.

The geotechnical investigations are essential for gathering subsurface and hydrologic data required for the future development of the Scorpio Energy Center. The Decision Record detailing these activities and their approvals is accessible at: Scorpio Geotech Investigation
