BLM Approves Land Sale for Anaconda Mine Site Clean-Up
In a move aimed at facilitating environmental remediation, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has sanctioned the sale of over 2,000 acres of public land near Yerington, Nevada. The land sale to Atlantic Richfield Company covers an area encompassing the Anaconda mine site in Lyon County.
The decision results from collaborative efforts between the BLM, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, and Atlantic Richfield Company. The aim is to implement a comprehensive clean-up plan for the site. To ensure the effectiveness of this plan, Atlantic Richfield sought to purchase five parcels of public land, along with the underlying federal mineral estate, as allowed under Section 203(f) of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act.
Further details, including the decision and environmental assessment documents, can be accessed via the BLM National NEPA Register. For additional inquiries, BLM Realty Specialist Mary Feitz can be contacted at 775-885-6000 or via email at [email protected].
