Supporting Families in Livingston County Through STEAM and Community

Community Efforts Strengthen Support for Livingston County Families

The foundation of a robust community often lies in its support for young families. Initiatives like Great Start Livingston and Help Me Grow Livingston are at the forefront of this mission, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young children and their families.

Recently, Women United, a leadership group within the Livingston County United Way, organized a gathering to assemble Growing Through STEAM kits. These kits aim to enhance Great Start Livingston’s community playdates by providing engaging resources to families across the county.

Unwavering Support in Challenging Times

Over the past year, Great Start Livingston encountered a significant setback due to the loss of crucial funding for early childhood coordination and family engagement. This period of uncertainty was met with decisive action from Livingston County United Way and Women United.

Their assistance was pivotal in sustaining the organization’s efforts. They played a vital role in seeking new grant opportunities and fortifying the organization’s capacity to continue its invaluable work with families in Livingston County.

Enhancing Child Development Through STEAM

The Growing Through STEAM kits are thoughtfully designed tools that go beyond mere activities. They cater specifically to children aged 3–5, supporting their developmental milestones through hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) exploration.

These kits help enhance:

  • Fine motor skills
  • Problem-solving and early math concepts
  • Communication and language development
  • Social-emotional abilities like persistence and cooperation

This focus on development aligns with resources such as the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), available through Help Me Grow Livingston, allowing families to gauge their child’s progress.

Participation in Great Start Livingston playdates offers more than just activities; it provides families with crucial connections and resources.

Active Community Engagement

Women United’s involvement doesn’t stop at assembling kits. Members actively participate in playdates, leading activities, and directly engaging with families, demonstrating the essence of community support.

This collaboration exemplifies true partnership, highlighting the importance of investing in early childhood and being present when it truly counts.

Livingston County United Way and Women United’s commitment to Great Start Livingston and Help Me Grow Livingston ensures that the youngest members of the community are given the strong start they deserve.
