Seeking Community Champions for Children’s Well-being
Is there someone you know who is making a significant impact on the lives of children in our community? A person who contributes to creating a safer and more nurturing environment for children to flourish?
The LACASA Center CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Council alongside Great Start Livingston / Help Me Grow Livingston is currently welcoming nominations for the 2026 Champions for Children Awards.
Every year in April, coinciding with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, commendations are given to those individuals and organizations whose efforts positively affect children and families within the community.
Children excel when communities actively support them.

Recognition Ceremony
The awardees of the 2026 Champions for Children will be honored during the CAP Council’s annual Plant a Pinwheel Celebration on April 8 at the Howell Carnegie District Library.
This event marks the beginning of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, highlighting the essential role communities play in prevention efforts.
Eligibility for Nomination
Nominations are open to individuals whose commitment to children and families is evident in:
- Their professional endeavors
- Their volunteer activities
- The relationships they cultivate with children and families
Past honorees have included teachers, coaches, foster caregivers, childcare workers, public servants, and community volunteers.
Multiple winners will be chosen to reflect the diverse ways people can champion children in Livingston County.
Attributes of a Champion
A Champion for Children might be someone who:
- Promotes developmental screenings for families
- Engages in early literacy initiatives and book distribution
- Organizes educational events for parents
- Advocates for child safety and prevention
- Builds trusted networks with families
- Offers resources to parents in need
At Help Me Grow, it’s often said, “When you don’t know, call Help Me Grow.”
Champions play a crucial role in making families aware that support is available and accessible.
About the Organizing Bodies
The CAP Council operates under the LACASA Center and is affiliated with the Michigan Children’s Trust Fund. Its programs receive partial funding from the Livingston County United Way.
The Great Start Collaborative / Help Me Grow of Livingston County is a coalition of early childhood professionals, parents, and community groups committed to preparing Livingston County children for academic and life success.
Together, these organizations forge connections within the community to bolster families with young children.
