Flint, Michigan is taking major strides in addressing its water crisis, with a new key player joining the city’s leadership. Dylan Luna, a member of the Flint School Board, has been added to the team focused on formulating a long-term water stability plan. Alongside Mayor Sheldon Neeley and City Council Finance Chair Judy Priestley, Luna aims to ensure the community has safe and affordable drinking water.
Historically, Flint has relied on funds from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to temporarily counteract the rising water rates imposed by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA). However, this short-term fix necessitates a sustainable strategy for the future.
Luna, who holds degrees in public policy, urban education, and business administration, brings a distinct set of skills to the initiative. His extensive educational background, coupled with his recent appointment to the Flint Planning Commission, positions him as a valuable contributor to the city’s efforts.
Mayor Sheldon Neeley highlighted the significance of the collaboration. “This is about securing Flint’s future,” Neeley stated. “Bringing the right people to the table is a critical step in that process.”
Echoing this sentiment, Judy Priestley, Finance Chair of the City Council, stressed the importance of the task at hand. “By bringing together dedicated leaders with deep roots in our community, we are taking meaningful steps toward a sustainable solution that protects residents today and for generations to come,” she said.
