Detroit Health Department Hosts Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Summit

Detroit Health Department Advances HIV/AIDS Awareness with Annual Summit

In a dedicated effort to tackle HIV/AIDS disparities, the Detroit Health Department organized its third annual Detroit Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Summit on April 24. Held at Developing Kingdoms in Different Stages (K.I.D.S.), the event was accessible to all Detroit residents, featuring free childcare and transportation assistance. The summit, guided by the theme “Awareness! Advocacy! ACTION!”, attracted community partners and providers united in addressing the challenges faced in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Chief Public Health Officer and Director of Health Ali Abazeed emphasized the summit’s critical role in fostering connections to care and enhancing health outcomes. “This summit is about connecting Detroiters to care and improving health outcomes across our city,” he stated. He acknowledged the ongoing impact of HIV on Black Detroiters and the concerted efforts to confront these challenges. “Together with our community partners, we are turning awareness into action by linking residents to care, breaking down barriers, and delivering real progress toward health equity for every Detroiter,” Abazeed added.

The event underscored the importance of community collaboration in building a comprehensive public health response. This initiative aligns with the Detroit Health Department’s commitment to fostering an equitable public health environment by strengthening partnerships and enhancing service accessibility.
