Fort Pierce Unveils New Water Reclamation Facility
In a significant leap towards environmental sustainability and infrastructure development, Fort Pierce Utilities Authority has inaugurated the Mainland Water Reclamation & Reuse Facility. The new facility is set to play a crucial role in safeguarding the local environment, accommodating the city’s growth, and enhancing public services.
The realization of this facility has been a long-term endeavor, marked by extensive planning and collaboration. Since the ground was first broken in February 2023, the project has seen the dedication of over 300 professionals, including engineers and construction teams, who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition. The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority expresses deep appreciation to its partners, notably the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, along with various local, state, and federal representatives, for their invaluable support and funding contributions.
While the community celebrates this milestone, attention is already turning to Phase 2 of the project, which involves 17 conveyance projects designed to redirect wastewater to the newly opened facility.
The project has benefitted from financial backing provided by the DEP’s Division of Water Restoration Assistance, notably through the Indian River Lagoon Water Quality Improvement Grant and Legislative Appropriation.
