Florida State Parks Offer Free Entry for America’s 250th Anniversary

Discover History at Florida State Parks with Free Admission

As the United States embarks on celebrating its 250th anniversary, Florida opens the gates to its rich historical landscapes. In a tribute to George Washington’s birthday, Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is offering complimentary access to state parks from February 13 to February 16, 2026, inviting people to tread the grounds where America’s story began.

The parks are not mere recreational spots but are vibrant connectors to the nation’s formative years. These sites, ranging from barrier islands to ancient forts, offer a tangible link to the past, allowing visitors to engage with history beyond traditional exhibits.

“As the nation reflects on 250 years of independence, Florida State Parks invite visitors to experience history not just through exhibits, but through the landscapes themselves,” said DEP Secretary Alexis A. Lambert. “Our parks offer meaningful connections to the people and events that shaped our nation.”

Florida’s role during the Revolutionary War era is both intricate and often underappreciated. Known as British West Florida back then and sometimes referred to as the “fourteenth colony,” the state holds numerous parks preserving sites from this pivotal time.

Visitors are encouraged to delve into the Revolutionary connections at various parks throughout the state.
