Villanova University Celebrates Earth Week 2026 with Engaging Events and Activities

VILLANOVA, Pa. (April 9, 2026)— In celebration of Earth Week 2026, Villanova University is organizing a series of events from April 14 to April 24. The initiative, led by Villanova Sustainability, aims to inspire the university community to reassess their interaction with the environment and integrate sustainable practices into their everyday life.

Key Events of Earth Week 2026

  • On Monday, April 20, at 6 p.m., a virtual webinar titled “What’s at Stake With the Energy Crisis?” will take place. This event, organized with the Lepage Center for History in the Public Interest, will feature insights from experts including Dr. Robert Lifset from the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Julie Cohn from Rice University, and Dr. Tyler Priest from the University of Iowa. The discussion will explore the contemporary energy challenges from a historical perspective.
  • The Sustainability Fair, the week’s largest event, is set for Wednesday, April 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Connelly Plaza. Attendees can look forward to arts and crafts, vendor booths, research presentations, and giveaways.
  • On Thursday, April 23, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Dr. Mary-Angela Papalaskari, Associate Professor Emerita of Computing Sciences, will lead a Fragments workshop. Participants will create cyanotype prints—a historic photographic technique—at Villanova’s new sustainability garden.
  • Queen Quet Marquetta L. Goodwine, chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, will deliver the keynote speech on Thursday, April 23, at 5:30 p.m. in Driscoll Hall Room 132. Her lecture, “Resilient Roots: Sustaining Gullah/Geechee Culturally and Environmentally,” will focus on the Gullah/Geechee community’s sustainable practices centered around cultural heritage and community involvement.
  • Villanova University will also host Earth Day of Service events on Sunday, April 19, and Sunday, April 26. Volunteers are invited to contribute to the development of the new community garden located behind Picotte Hall on West Campus.
