University of Arizona Graduate Programs Shine in U.S. News Rankings

In a testament to its academic excellence, several graduate programs at the University of Arizona have been acknowledged as top-tier in the United States by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings. This annual release highlights the university’s broad spectrum of high-performing disciplines.

Released on Tuesday, the rankings feature eight University of Arizona programs within the top 20 nationwide.

Top Achievements

The College of Science at the University of Arizona stands out with its Earth sciences program, ranking No. 2 among public universities and No. 4 overall. Notably, the college’s speech-language pathology program is ranked No. 4 among public institutions and No. 6 overall, with audiology also making a strong showing, tying for No. 11 among public universities and No. 15 overall.

The College of Education’s rehabilitation counseling program is another standout, tying for No. 5 among public entities and No. 7 overall. Meanwhile, its higher education administration program saw a rise to tie for No. 11 among public universities and No. 16 overall, with the college tied for No. 57 overall.

The James E. Rogers College of Law excels in legal writing, tying for No. 5 among public universities and No. 8 overall.

Within the Eller College of Management, the management information systems program ties for No. 6 among public universities and No. 11 overall.

In the College of Information Science, the information systems program ranks No. 11 among public universities and No. 13 overall, while library and information science ties for No. 24 overall.

Beyond its top 20 achievements in fields like earth sciences and speech-language pathology, the College of Science also ranks prominently in other areas:

  • Physics: tied for No. 34
  • Clinical psychology: tied for No. 38
  • Mathematics: tied for No. 39

  • Biological sciences: tied for No. 41

Two years ago, U.S. News & World Report began organizing its Best Medical Schools: Research and Best Medical Schools: Primary Care lists in tiers. The University of Arizona’s College of Medicine – Tucson is placed in tier 2 for both primary care and medical research.

Specific rankings continue for categories such as Most Graduates in Primary Care, with the College of Medicine – Tucson tying for No. 64 and the College of Medicine – Phoenix rising 21 spots to tie for No. 104. On the list of Most Graduates Practicing in Medically Underserved Areas, the Tucson campus ties for No. 56, while the Phoenix campus ranks No. 99. For Most Graduates Practicing in Rural Areas, Tucson improved 21 slots to No. 50, and Phoenix ties for No. 82.

The College of Nursing is tied for No. 34 for its master’s programs and No. 37 for its doctoral programs.

Expert Survey-Based Rankings

U.S. News also ranks various programs based on expert surveys in fields such as sciences and social sciences. In addition to top rankings in rehabilitation counseling and speech-language pathology, the University of Arizona achieved the following survey-based rankings:

  • Pharmacy: tied for No. 27
  • Nurse anesthesia: tied for No. 35
  • Public affairs: tied No. 36
  • Public health: tied for No. 39
