Short-term Disability and University Absence Policies Explained

The short-term disability benefit does not change how University absence policies are applied.

When facing an absence from work due to illness or injury, employees with paid time off available are expected to use it in line with the university’s policies. Short-term disability benefits are designed to supplement earnings if the paid time off is insufficient to cover the entire period of absence.

It is highly recommended that employees reach out to the appropriate University leave office to understand how their available paid time off options, such as FMLA, IPPL, Vacation, and Sick Leave, apply to their specific circumstances.
