Hawkeyes Celebrate Homecoming with Traditions, Parade, and Victory

Amidst a mix of nostalgia and excitement, Iowa City came alive as the University of Iowa celebrated Homecoming week, drawing Hawkeyes from near and far. Decked out in black and gold, attendees embraced the festivities despite a touch of rain, ensuring the week was one to remember.

The Homecoming events, which took place from October 25 to 31, were marked by appearances from notable alumni. Among them was acclaimed playwright and Iowa alumnus Samuel D. Hunter, who had the honor of leading the parade through downtown Iowa City. The festivities were further enriched by the presence of former Hawkeye football star George Kittle, who returned to Kinnick Stadium to serve as the honorary captain.

Even as rain threatened to put a damper on the events and an early 11 a.m. kickoff on Halloween approached, the undeterred spirit of the Hawkeyes shone through. Fans witnessed a dominant performance as Iowa secured a 30–0 victory over Wisconsin, capping off the week with a triumphant finish.

For those who attended or wish to revisit the memorable moments, a collection of highlights is available in the accompanying photo gallery and recap video.
