FIU Probes GOP Group Chat with Racist, Antisemitic, Misogynistic Slurs

University Investigates Controversial Group Chat Linked to GOP Official

A Florida university is delving into a controversial group chat linked to a Miami-Dade Republican Party official, which has sparked significant backlash due to the inclusion of racist, antisemitic, and misogynistic language.

The group chat, involving students and prominent conservative figures at Florida International University (FIU), was brought to light by the Miami Herald, which independently verified the discussions. The university has since declared that it is working with campus police and various law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter.

FIU President Jeanette Nunez, who previously served as Florida’s lieutenant governor and was a GOP state lawmaker, made a firm statement: “FIU does not and will not tolerate violence, hate, discrimination, harassment, racism or antisemitism. This is not who we are. This is not what FIU stands for.”

The Republican Party of Florida has responded by launching “an internal review” and has strongly disapproved of the “repugnant comments,” asserting that they are “completely contrary” to the party’s values.

Notably, similar incidents have occurred previously. Last fall, New York’s Republican State Committee suspended a Young Republican organization after a group chat surfaced with inappropriate jokes about rape and insensitive remarks about gas chambers.

The Republican Jewish Coalition also voiced its agreement with the Florida GOP’s condemnation. “Antisemitism and bigotry have no place in the Republican Party,” emphasized Sam Markstein, a spokesperson for the Jewish GOP group.
