Drake University Names Anisa Hansen as Associate Provost for Equity

Drake University Welcomes Anisa Hansen as New Associate Provost for Equity & Inclusion

As of July 1, Anisa Hansen will step into the role of Associate Provost for Campus Equity & Inclusion at Drake University. This appointment follows the dedicated service of Terrance Pendleton, who plans to return to his faculty role in the Mathematics department after three years in the position.

Holding a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Drake University, Hansen has been a Professor of Pharmacy Practice and a behavioral health clinical pharmacist at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She is recognized for her commitment to diversity and inclusion, having served as Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and as an advocate on campus JEDI and NCBI DEI teams.

“Dr. Hansen represents the very best of Drake University — a dedicated educator and clinician who leads with profound empathy and a deep-seated commitment to equity,” expressed Drake University Provost Sue Mattison. Hansen’s dedication to mental health advocacy and her focus on inclusive healthcare is reflected in her numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations.

Achievements and Expertise

Dr. Hansen’s accomplishments include specialized training from the Trauma-Informed Care Institute, an APhA Pain Management Certificate, and completion of the Academic Leadership Fellows Program. Her accolades at the university include the 2026 Faculty Preceptor of the Year, the 2026 Hartig Distinguished Professor Award, and the 2025 Diversity Catalyst Award.

“This work builds upon the dedication and hard work of the leaders whose commitment to equity, inclusion, and meaningful change helped lay the foundation for our progress,” Hansen remarked. She emphasizes the role of education in fostering leaders and changemakers, aligning her mission with the University’s broader goals.

Pendleton’s Return to Teaching

Terrance Pendleton, after his term as Associate Provost, will return to teaching mathematics. “A trusted leader whose tireless behind-the-scenes work building community and guiding progress is often unrecognized but is clearly effective,” noted Mattison. Pendleton looks forward to focusing on teaching and community service.
