Craig Melvin, acclaimed journalist and co-anchor of NBC’s TODAY, is set to inspire the Class of 2026 at Villanova University as their keynote speaker this May.
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University President, the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, has announced that Craig Melvin will deliver the commencement address for the Class of 2026. Melvin will also be honored with the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa.
The 183rd commencement ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m., at Villanova Stadium. Should severe weather occur, the event will move indoors to the Finneran Pavilion.

Known for his role as co-anchor on NBC’s “TODAY,” Melvin also co-hosts the “3rd Hour of TODAY” and frequently appears on “Dateline NBC.” His podcast, “Glass Half Full with Craig Melvin,” features in-depth conversations with individuals about transformative life experiences.
Melvin’s journalism career is marked by coverage of significant national and international events, including political conventions and presidential inaugurations. He has interviewed notable figures such as former President Bill Clinton and then-Vice President Joe Biden, among others.
His reporting has tackled critical national issues, from widespread protests to prominent criminal cases, showcasing his dedication to comprehensive, on-the-ground journalism. Internationally, Melvin has reported from six Olympic Games and six Super Bowls.
Before joining NBC News and MSNBC in July 2011, Melvin was affiliated with WRC in Washington, D.C., and served as an evening news anchor at WIS in Columbia, S.C., his hometown.
Melvin has authored two books, “Pops: Learning to Be a Son and a Father” and “I’m Proud of You,” a children’s book. He is an alumnus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., where he is also a board trustee. His philanthropic efforts include active participation with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, where he is on the board.
