LANSING, Mich. – As Michigan continues to bolster its economic landscape, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has unveiled two significant business expansion projects. These ventures promise a capital influx of $27,750,000 and the creation of 164 jobs with competitive wages. CRP Automotive is set to expand in Pittsfield to meet the rising demand for advanced remanufactured automotive service parts, while CQT Weapon Systems will amplify its defense manufacturing capabilities in Macomb in response to growing needs both domestically and internationally.
Governor Whitmer stated, “Michigan is on the move and open for business, competing for and winning big projects in next-generation industries like defense and auto manufacturing. Today’s announcement will create 164 new good-paying jobs and help cement Michigan as the best place to chase the next big idea. Let’s keep working together to show the world that Michigan is the best place to build the future.”
CRP Automotive’s Strategic Expansion
CRP Automotive is gearing up for an expansion in Pittsfield, aimed at addressing the high demand for remanufactured service parts as vehicle technology advances. This move aligns with the industry’s shift towards cost-effective remanufactured solutions for complex components. With plans to engineer and validate these parts to meet original standards, CRP Automotive is poised to fill a crucial market gap.
According to Dan Schildge, CEO of CRP Industries, “Opening this new facility is a testament to our commitment to meeting the growing need for remanufacturing of complex mechatronics.” The expansion is supported by a $100,000 Michigan Business Development Program grant, with expectations of generating a $4,050,000 capital investment and nearly 30 new jobs that surpass regional wage averages.
Jennifer Olmstead, Vice President of Business Development at Ann Arbor SPARK, added, “CRP Automotive’s expansion in Pittsfield Township is an exciting investment in Washtenaw County, bringing new jobs and advancing innovation in automotive remanufacturing.”
CQT Weapon Systems’ Growth in Defense Manufacturing
CQT Weapon Systems is set to enhance its operations in Macomb Township, driven by an escalating demand for U.S.-made weaponry and training services. This expansion includes acquiring a 24,000-square-foot facility to accommodate precision machining, UAV production, and more, while adhering to federal export regulations.
Al Dustan II, CEO of CQT Weapon Systems, expressed gratitude for MEDC’s support, which has been pivotal in their growth. The project is anticipated to bring $23.7 million in investment and 136 jobs with wages above the regional median.
Macomb Township Supervisor Frank J. Viviano commented, “CQT Weapon Systems’ expansion into Macomb Township is an exciting investment in our community and a strong example of the innovation and advanced manufacturing happening right here in Michigan.”
Michigan’s Economic and Defense Industry Impact
These expansions underline Michigan’s strategic position in the defense and automotive sectors, both vital to the state’s economy. The defense and aerospace industries alone contribute over $30 billion annually, supporting more than 166,000 jobs, and play a critical role in maintaining national military readiness.
