LG Energy’s Arizona Battery Complex to Create Thousands of Jobs by 2026

Arizona’s Battery Manufacturing Boom: A New Era of Energy Solutions

In the heart of Queen Creek, Arizona, a significant development is taking shape that promises to reshape the energy landscape. LG Energy Solution, a global leader in battery technology, is advancing its ambitious project to build a major battery manufacturing complex, anticipated to be completed by 2026.

QUEEN CREEK, AZ (April 3, 2024) – The $5.5 billion project by LG Energy Solution is progressing as planned, with construction updates shared recently at a stakeholder meeting held at Combs High School. The meeting was attended by key figures such as Governor Katie Hobbs and LG Energy Solution Arizona President Richard Ra, alongside local officials and project partners.

Governor Hobbs highlighted the project’s significance, stating, This transformative investment will have a lasting impact not only in Arizona, but across the country and moves us one step closer toward our clean energy goals. Alongside this, she unveiled a new initiative, the Future48 Workforce Accelerator, aimed at equipping locals with the skills needed for these emerging roles.

The complex will house two distinct facilities producing cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles and lithium iron phosphate batteries for energy storage systems. The cylindrical battery plant, LG Energy Solution Arizona, will manufacture the advanced 46-Series batteries, while the ESS facility will cater to the growing demand for energy storage solutions in North America.

Projected to reach a production capacity of 53GWh annually, the complex is expected to begin operations in 2026, with hiring starting later this year. Richard Ra conveyed confidence in the project’s timeline and recruitment plans, noting, We expect the recruitment of our (launch team) members to begin late this year, and a full-scale recruitment to follow from the second half of 2025.

David Kim, CEO of LG Energy Solution, emphasized the company’s strategic market position, stating, By further expanding our product portfolio and offering diverse options to our customers, we will continue to strengthen our market competitiveness. This reflects the broader goal of enhancing customer value through technological leadership.

Stakeholders expressed excitement about the project’s regional impact. Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley remarked, The substantial investment will create a positive ripple effect for the region and the state, bringing local jobs, infrastructure, and capital investment. Similarly, Mike Goodman from the Pinal County Board of Supervisors highlighted the project’s role in addressing local employment challenges.

With another stand-alone facility in Michigan and joint ventures with major automakers, LG Energy Solution is reinforcing its presence in the U.S. battery market. The Arizona complex, with its comprehensive product offerings, positions the company strategically to support the transition to clean energy.
