Maricopa County has taken significant steps to address stormwater pollution by organizing its 16th Annual Stormwater Poster Contest. This initiative seeks to enlighten the public about the hazards of stormwater runoff, which often flows untreated into natural water bodies, carrying pollutants with it. The theme for this year’s contest is “Clean Stormwater for AZ Wildlife!”
The contest invites participation from students in grades 3 through 6 residing in Maricopa County. For inspiration and further details, students and educators can visit the contest’s official webpage at www.maricopa.gov/postercontest.
Numerous organizations have come together to support this year’s contest, including AZ State Parks, Bearizona, Desert Botanical Gardens, Liberty Wildlife, and several others, ensuring a comprehensive community effort.
Contest Participation Details
Eligibility: Students from 3rd to 6th grade in Maricopa County can participate. The contest features two distinct categories:
- Grades 3-4
- Grades 5-6

Entry Deadline
Submissions must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 9, 2026.
Submission Guidelines
- Posters should not exceed 8 ½” x 11” in size.
- Original artwork is required; avoid using brand names. All art mediums are welcome.
- The theme “Clean Stormwater for AZ Wildlife” must be central to the poster, accompanied by a clear message or image.
- Include on the back: Student’s Name, Grade, Teacher’s Name, School Name, Address, and Phone Number.
- By entering, artists grant Maricopa County the rights to reproduce and display their work. Submissions will not be returned.
Prizes
Grand Prize for 3rd/4th Grade:
- Tour of Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary
- Passes to various attractions like Liberty Wildlife and Phoenix Art Museum
- Swag from Maricopa County Library District and Environmental Services
- Display of artwork on the County’s platforms
- Special awards ceremony with County Leadership
Grand Prize for 5th/6th Grade:
- Carload pass to Bearizona
- Similar prizes as the 3rd/4th Grade winners
Second and Third Prizes
Winners from each category will receive guest passes to local attractions, swag bags, and special recognition, with their artwork showcased by the County.
