Geotechnical Study Granted for Proposed State Route 361 Realignment
The Bureau of Land Management’s Stillwater Field Office has issued a temporary right-of-way (ROW) to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to facilitate essential geotechnical studies. These activities will take place on public lands situated between Middlegate and Gabbs, spanning Churchill and Mineral Counties, Nevada.
This geotechnical investigation is a critical step in the planned realignment of State Route 361 (SR 361). The route adjustment is necessitated by the expansion of the Naval Air Station’s Fallon Range Training Complex, a modernization project that has undergone a federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessment, receiving clearance in March 2020. Congress mandated this expansion as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act. Temporary boring operations are essential to complete the design and routing needed for the realignment.
