Responsible Land Stewardship: A Step Forward in Preserving Open Spaces
In a significant move towards enhancing responsible land stewardship, a series of parcels have been proposed for acquisition. These parcels aim to maintain open spaces that are vital for supporting species of regional interest and ecological significance. The estimated cost for these acquisitions stands at $3,058,550, although the final purchase price will align with fair market value based on federal appraisal standards.
Since its inception, the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act (SNPLMA) has funded over 1,500 projects. These initiatives have been pivotal in expanding recreational opportunities, improving access to federal lands, promoting species conservation, protecting crucial landscapes, and mitigating the risk of wildland fires in vulnerable communities.
For those interested in more detailed information, including the recommendation, executive summary, and project nomination, resources are available on the SNPLMA Off Cycle Acquisition website. Public comments are invited and can be submitted via email to [email protected] (preferred) or sent to the SNPLMA Executive Committee Chair at the BLM Southern Nevada District Office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130. The comment period will close on June 3, 2026.
