Reno Honors Black History Month with Special City Plaza Event
The City of Reno is set to commemorate Black History Month with a special event at Reno City Plaza. This celebration, organized in collaboration with Our Story, Inc. and the Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS), will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 4:30 p.m.
A host of activities is planned, including the reading of a proclamation and the illumination of the BELIEVE sign at the plaza in red, yellow, and green, the symbolic colors of Black History Month. The BELIEVE sign will remain lit in these colors throughout the month as a tribute.
Tribute to Kenny Dalton
This year’s recognition will pay special tribute to Kenny Dalton, one of the first black firefighters in Reno. Dalton dedicated his life to community service and was instrumental in planning various city events, including this year’s Black History Month activities.
Attendees will have the convenience of free parking at the Reno City Hall Parking Garage, making it easier for community members to participate in this significant celebration.
Support for Firefighters Museum
Continuing a tradition for the third year, the Reno Fire Department will offer a special edition fire t-shirt. Proceeds from these shirts will benefit the Northern Nevada African American Firefighters Museum, supporting the preservation of important local history.
