Federal Grant Distribution Temporarily Halted

PHOENIX – State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Horne, recently addressed the temporary suspension of federal grants as ordered by the Trump Administration. This pause, announced through a communication from the Office of Management and Budget, is intended to allow political staff within federal agencies to review the alignment of grant programs with the administration’s priorities. The evaluation will include considerations of bans on diversity, equity, and inclusion requirements, as well as the suspension of foreign aid.

Horne clarified that the U.S. Department of Education has assured state education departments that this pause will not impact Title I funding, special education allocations, or other formula grants. Despite this reassurance, Horne has instructed his department to secure necessary funds proactively during the two-week halt to mitigate any potential disruptions. He emphasized the need for additional clarification from federal authorities to fully understand the suspension’s ramifications and to adjust state responses as necessary.

In a specific note, Horne confirmed, “This pause does not affect the $6 million to be allocated to the Isaac Elementary District. Our department is already processing those funds.”
