Discover Indigenous Knowledge Through a Unique Botanical Exhibition at Parkway Central
This spring, the Parkway Central Library becomes a hub for exploring the intersection of Indigenous knowledge and American history, thanks to a pop-up display by the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. This display is part of their broader exhibition, Botany of Nations, which delves into the plant collections from the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Starting on April 10, visitors can explore selections from Botany of Nations at the Social Sciences and History section on the Second Floor of the Parkway Central Library. The display highlights Indigenous foodways, rich histories, and botanical wisdom through various mediums, including books, cookbooks, textiles dyed naturally, and illustrated maps.
Coinciding with the city’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the exhibition encourages visitors to reflect on themes of connection and interdependence, set against the backdrop of independence.
