Historic Packer Hall Reimagined as Clayton University Center
In January 2025, the Clayton University Center at Packer Hall opened its doors to welcome the students, faculty, and staff of Lehigh University. This transformation of the historic Packer Hall, originally constructed in 1868 and last updated in the 1950s, has breathed new life into the campus. Retaining its historical charm, the redesigned space has quickly become a central hub that enriches the student experience and fosters a sense of community.
The Clayton University Center, now a lively nexus of activity and interaction, operates around the clock for the Lehigh community. It features a variety of new spaces such as the Club Hub, where student clubs and organizations convene, the Great Room equipped with lounge areas along with table tennis and pool tables, the Harmon Boardroom designed for conferences, updated office spaces, and the outdoor Pan Family Fire Pit. These areas are designed to support both academic pursuits and social engagement, contributing to the vibrant community atmosphere.
Among the new additions are innovative dining options like the Lehigh Pub, a European-inspired bistro serving comprehensive lunch and dinner menus, and conveniences such as the Clutch and Go store.
The renovated Clayton University Center was officially dedicated during Founder’s Weekend in October 2025, celebrating the philanthropic spirit of donors like Kevin L. Clayton ’84 P’13 and Lisa A. Clayton P’13. This milestone underscores Lehigh University’s dedication to fostering community and connection within the Clayton University Center for future generations.
