Flint’s Yard Waste Collection Starts April 1 with “Bag It!” Program

FLINT, Mich. As the seasons change, Flint residents prepare for the annual yard waste collection, which kicks off on April 1. This initiative is part of the city’s effort to maintain cleanliness and environmental responsibility in neighborhoods during the warmer months.

The City of Flint’s “Bag It!” Program invites residents to participate in the curbside pickup of yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, and small branches. This service operates on residents’ regular collection days but requires yard waste to be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. and at least 10 feet away from regular trash carts.

Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley highlighted community collaboration as a key factor in Flint’s progress.

“Keeping Flint clean takes all of us working together,” said Mayor Neeley. “Through prayer, planning and partnership, we are continuing to move our city forward. The Bag It! Program is a simple but powerful way for residents to take pride in their neighborhoods, protect our environment, and help ensure Flint is prepared for the seasons ahead.”

The program extends until November 30, offering residents plenty of time to manage their properties and contribute to a more sustainable Flint.

To assist the community, the City provides free yard waste bags at three accessible locations:

  • Flint City Hall
  • Mays Senior & Community Center
  • McKinley Community Center

Residents can collect up to three (3) bags per visit, with a maximum of two visits per household, subject to availability.

Residents should avoid raking or blowing yard waste into streets or storm drains to prevent blockages, street flooding, and harm to the environment. Violations could lead to citations.

For further details or inquiries about the yard waste collection, residents can contact (810) 410-1134.
