Dallas Opens Permit Applications for Shared Dockless Vehicles
Starting March 17, 2026, the City of Dallas Department of Transportation and Public Works will commence the acceptance of permit applications from companies aiming to offer shared dockless vehicles, including electric bicycles and scooters, for public use. The application window will remain open until April 6, 2026.
In the upcoming permit cycle for 2026-2027, the city plans to authorize up to three companies as per the Program Rules established in May 2025. Applications submitted past the deadline will not be considered. Initially, newly permitted companies can deploy a maximum of 500 devices. However, this number may increase every two months, contingent upon ridership data and the volume of complaints received.
To ensure safety and reduce clutter, companies must adhere to specific regulations concerning scooter and electric bicycle parking, as well as designated “No Ride Zones” in areas such as parks, plazas, and trails, alongside “Slow Ride Zones” like Deep Ellum. Additionally, there are restrictions on the number of units that can be parked on each block to minimize obstruction on sidewalks and streets.
