Chair and Vice Chair Urge Action on Early Voting for July Primary

Maricopa County Officials Urge Recorder to Ensure Adequate Early Voting Arrangements

In light of upcoming elections, Maricopa County officials are pressing Recorder Heap to ensure robust planning and resource allocation for early voting. With the July Primary Election on the horizon, Chair Kate Brophy McGee and Vice Chair Debbie Lesko have stressed the urgency in a recent letter.

The letter emphasizes the need for Recorder Heap to maintain the standard of service previously managed by the Board, advocating for a wide distribution of voting sites across the county during the 27-day early voting period, as required by law.

Recorder Heap has been invited to collaborate with the Elections Department, which is well-equipped with the necessary resources and expertise. This follows Heap’s statement in court expressing willingness to address logistical challenges. A deadline has been set for Friday for Heap to respond, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.

Should Recorder Heap opt not to engage, the Board will proceed under the assumption that early voting will be managed independently.
