Drake University Theatre Arts is set to launch the spring term with an intriguing line-up featuring two student-led productions. This includes the debut of an original musical crafted by the talented students of Drake University.

Thompson’s Luck
This one-act play, penned by Harry Greenwood Grover and brought to life under the direction of Drake student Jacob Burns, explores the consequences of arrogance. The narrative delves into the life of a man whose refusal to anticipate misfortune leads to a profound and inevitable tragedy for his family. Through the performances, four actors convey the raw intensity of the piece, inviting the audience to ponder its emotional gravity.
Duck, Duck, Gay Duck
Conceived and directed by Gabe Borken and Asher Jean Speck, this vibrant new musical comedy tells the story of self-discovery and acceptance. As high school graduation looms, a duck named Gay faces a life-altering experience when paired with his crush, Dick, for a school project. The plot thickens as the school’s diving team intervenes, challenging Gay to make a pivotal decision. This musical celebrates queerness, emphasizing themes of love, acceptance, and belonging.
