Join Iowa’s Inaugural State Park Volunteer Day on September 30

In an effort to promote community involvement and enhance public spaces, Iowa’s state parks are inviting volunteers to participate in the first-ever State Park Volunteer Day on September 30. This event will be hosted across 32 parks throughout the state.

“We all have important roles to play in caring for our state parks,” stated Todd Coffelt, chief of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources State Parks Bureau. “They are everyone’s land, part of the public trust.”

Volunteer opportunities abound for groups and individuals alike, including families, friends, and various organizations. Participants will engage in a variety of activities such as removing invasive plant species, trail maintenance, trash collection, painting picnic tables, forest restoration, and prairie seeding.

This initiative coincides with National Public Lands Day, recognized as the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States. Nationwide, over 200,000 volunteers will join forces at more than 2,500 sites to support conservation efforts.
