Dallas Animal Services Achieves Record-Setting Adoption Numbers in 2024
In a remarkable achievement, Dallas Animal Services (DAS) has reported unprecedented adoption figures for 2024, as highlighted in the Best Friends Animal Society’s annual National Dataset.
Data from the Best Friends Animal Society, which compiles statistics from nearly 4,000 shelters across the United States, places DAS among the top-tier shelters for total adoptions in 2024. With a staggering 12,261 pets finding new homes last year, DAS witnessed an impressive 41% rise in adoptions from the previous year, translating to 3,580 additional pets adopted compared to 2023. This significant increase not only set DAS apart within Texas but also marked the highest nationwide year-over-year adoption growth.
Such exceptional progress highlights DAS’s role in contributing to nearly 4% of the national adoption uptick, showcasing the community’s support alongside the hard work of DAS staff and volunteers.

Among Texas shelters, DAS led by a notable margin, achieving over 4,000 more adoptions than El Paso, the second-highest reporting city. This sets a strong precedent for other communities looking to support their local shelters.
