PHOENIX, AZ (October 3, 2024) – In a significant boost to innovation and technology advancement in Arizona, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) has unveiled the 25 semifinalists for the 2024 Arizona Innovation Challenge (AIC). This initiative ranks among the largest business plan competitions nationwide.
The AIC aims to nurture and propel early-stage ventures within Arizona, emphasizing the commercialization of technology and innovation. Through this competition, startups gain the opportunity to enhance their growth trajectory.
The 2024 AIC semifinalists represent some of the most promising startups developing next generation technologies in growing industries,
said Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. This year’s exciting semifinalists were selected from 130 applicants, highlighting Arizona’s robust ecosystem of talented entrepreneurs. The 2024 Arizona Innovation Challenge Semifinalists
Of the 130 initial applications for the 2024 contest, industries ranging from technology and healthcare to manufacturing and renewable energy were represented.
The semifinalists cover several sectors:
- Bio & Life Sciences: 32%
IT/Software: 20% - Advanced Materials: 16%
- Advanced Manufacturing: 12%
- CleanTech/Renewable Energy: 12%
- IT/Hardware: 4%
- Aerospace & Defense: 4%
The AIC involves three rigorous judging rounds, where applicants receive valuable feedback. Following these evaluations, 15 finalists will be chosen to present their ventures to a panel of investors, leading to the selection of up to 10 AIC awardees for 2024. Post-competition, participants can consult with the ACA to explore further resources and refine their business strategies.

- Week of October 7: Semifinalist Applications Open
- October 11, 2024: Semifinalist Applications Due
- October 21 through November 8, 2024: Semifinalist Judging
- November 14, 2024: Finalists Announced
- November 21, 2024: Finalist Pitch Day
- December 2, 2024: Awardees Announced
Upon completion of each competition cycle, up to 10 companies join the Arizona Innovation Challenge portfolio. These companies engage in Venture Scale, a six-month accelerator program. This initiative connects startups with seasoned entrepreneurs, executives, and experts, pairing each founder with an Entrepreneur-in-Residence to enhance their business strategies and investor readiness.
Semifinalists and finalists not selected as AIC Awardees are invited to participate in Venture Raise, a 12-week accelerator focusing on financial strategies, investor engagement, and startup health.
