Join the Celebration of National Public Lands Day at Soldier Meadows ACEC
Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty and rich heritage of Soldier Meadows ACEC by participating in National Public Lands Day. This unique opportunity allows you to engage in meaningful stewardship activities while connecting with nature and fellow volunteers.
Hands-On Service Projects
On Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Friends of Nevada Wilderness will host an array of stewardship projects. Volunteers can contribute to various initiatives including repairing the public cabin, enhancing campgrounds, removing old fences, collecting litter, painting facilities, clearing fire pit ash, and joining educational hikes. These tasks accommodate all skill levels and offer a rewarding way to support Soldier Meadows.
Volunteer Guidelines
Volunteers should be prepared for physical exertion, such as standing for long periods, traversing uneven terrain, and lifting weights between 15 and 50 lbs. Tasks may involve using hand tools, sanitizing surfaces, painting, and collaborating safely in groups. All necessary equipment, including protective gear, will be supplied by the Black Rock Field Office and Friends of Nevada Wilderness. It is essential to wear protective clothing, such as pants and long sleeves, and closed-toe shoes, only engaging in tasks that can be safely completed.
Essential Items to Bring
Participants should bring their own food, water, and sun protection. While breakfast will be provided on Saturday morning, volunteers can also enjoy a potluck dutch oven cook-off that evening. A grab-and-go breakfast will be available on Sunday morning. Every contribution counts, so join in as your schedule allows!
Prioritizing Safety
Safety is paramount, and all volunteers will adhere to guidelines outlined in the Risk Assessments. The team is dedicated to ensuring everyone has the support and resources needed for a safe and enjoyable experience.
The Importance of Volunteering
Participating in National Public Lands Day goes beyond service—it’s a celebration of our collective commitment to safeguarding Nevada’s public lands. Whether restoring habitats or learning about the area’s unique ecology, your efforts help protect Soldier Meadows for future generations.
