The University of Arizona is kicking off the 2026-27 academic year with a strong focus on its core goals, which include enhancing student success, advancing research, and fostering community engagement to create new opportunities. This renewed commitment is a part of the university’s ongoing strategic imperatives.
One of the key initiatives announced by President Suresh Garimella is the decision to maintain flat undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for the third year in a row. This effort is paired with the university’s plan to expand doctoral admissions, support innovative research, and drive economic growth.
“The University of Arizona enters this academic year with real momentum, and our responsibility is to build on it,” Garimella stated. “We are proud of our community’s accomplishments, but there is still more work to be done in support of our North Star: success for every student. These efforts are made possible by the caliber of our faculty and staff, and that is what makes this place a true force for good.”
Provost Patricia Prelock highlighted the university’s updated enrollment management strategy, which has been tailored to meet the needs of Arizona’s brightest students. This strategy has seen a positive reception from admitted students. Additionally, financial aid adjustments now offer more support to Arizona students eligible for Pell Grants.
President Garimella is also enthusiastic about supporting Arizona Athletics after a remarkable year that included winning the Big 12 Allstate Commissioner’s Cup for the first time, securing a second national title in triathlon, and achieving success in men’s basketball and other sports.
Beyond athletic achievements, the university is looking forward to a variety of campus-wide programs, including the transdisciplinary Big Idea Challenge, acclaimed arts and culture performances, and numerous events scheduled throughout the year.
