UACI stands out with its impressive rankings: 6th among public university-affiliated incubators, 15th among all university-affiliated incubators and accelerators, and 56th overall. These rankings underscore UACI’s effectiveness in offering high-value support to budding companies.
“TIME Magazine’s distinction is a testament to UACI’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs,” stated Casey Carrillo, the chief innovation officer at UACI. He emphasized the center’s role in nurturing startups and the importance of community partnerships in Southern Arizona.
The rankings were derived from a thorough evaluation by Statista, incorporating feedback from startups, alumni, and seasoned professionals in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Part of Tech Parks Arizona, UACI plays a crucial role in the university’s strategy to bolster local business growth, retain existing companies, and attract new ones. It aids startups in industries such as health and life sciences, climate technology, engineering, software, optics, aerospace, and semiconductors in transforming ideas into successful enterprises.
In its over 20 years of operation, UACI has supported more than 1,500 entrepreneurs and 300 startups, helping them secure over $200 million in capital. Between 2021 and 2023, the center’s client companies generated an impressive $664.8 million in economic impact, showcasing UACI’s significant contribution to Arizona’s economy.
An example of UACI’s success is Paramium Technologies, a satellite communications startup. Utilizing UACI’s tailored mentorship and resources, the company has grown from an early-stage innovation to a thriving business, exemplifying the center’s ability to guide startups toward scalable growth.
UACI has broadened its impact through initiatives like a new digital incubation program and the Soft Landings program, which supports international companies. These efforts, coupled with strong partnerships, provide entrepreneurs with vital mentorship, funding, and industry expertise.
The center’s achievements are bolstered by collaboration with entities like Pima County, Startup Tucson, and Tucson Electric Power, among others. These partnerships have fostered a robust startup ecosystem, drawing investment and creating jobs, thus positioning Southern Arizona as a key player in innovation.
