Marcellus Gains Certification as Redevelopment Ready Community
LANSING, Mich. – The Village of Marcellus has proudly joined the ranks of Michigan communities recognized for their strategic planning and zoning capabilities, earning the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) certification. This accolade, announced by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), underscores Marcellus’s commitment to attracting private investment and enhancing local infrastructure.
With this certification, Marcellus becomes the 95th community in Michigan to be distinguished as “thoroughly prepared” for redevelopment. The RRC designation is part of an initiative to reduce traditional investment barriers and create conducive environments for economic growth. “Our mission at MEDC is to support Michigan’s strong economic momentum and empower communities to establish a strong planning, zoning and economic development foundation,” stated Michele Wildman, MEDC SVP of Community Planning and Development Readiness. “The Village of Marcellus is well positioned to continue to implement their vision for the future and further improve the quality of life for its residents.”
As part of the certification process, Marcellus underwent a detailed assessment comparing its current practices to RRC best practice standards. This evaluation ensures that the community’s economic development strategies are transparent, predictable, and efficient, thereby enhancing its attractiveness to potential investors.
Jacqueline A. Terrill, manager/clerk for the Village of Marcellus, expressed her enthusiasm for the new designation: “I am thrilled that the Village of Marcellus has achieved its Certified Redevelopment Ready Community status. This designation highlights the collective commitment and effort put in by our Village Staff, Planning Commission, DDA, and Village Council to update our processes and better position us for investment.”
With the certification, Marcellus now benefits from new tools, ongoing technical assistance, and annual reviews to ensure continued alignment with best practices. The certification remains valid for five years before renewal is required.
