Resources and Assistance for Heat Relief and Utility Costs

In times of extreme heat, it is essential to support those who are most vulnerable. Whether someone is facing homelessness or struggling to pay for utilities, there are resources available. It’s crucial to remain vigilant and offer help to neighbors, family, and community members during these challenging times.

Heat Relief Network Offers Essential Support

The Heat Relief Network is an invaluable resource for individuals experiencing homelessness or other hardships that force them to endure the heat. Facilities provided by organizations such as Safe Spin not only offer respite from the heat but also provide essential services like food and healthcare through various partnerships.

Assistance for Rising Utility Costs

With soaring temperatures, utility expenses can become overwhelming. However, there are several avenues for financial relief:

  • The Department of Economic Security (DES) provides programs like the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Power AZ to assist with these costs. A single application covers both programs. More details and applications are available on the LIHEAP webpage.
  • The Maricopa County Human Services Department also offers aid to county residents. Interested individuals can check eligibility and apply by visiting the County Utilities page.

Maricopa County is reassessing its role in providing transfer station services, particularly in rural areas where waste disposal options are limited. Potential strategies include collaborations with government and private entities, revisions to fee structures, and possible facility closures or consolidations.

A stakeholder meeting is planned for August 13 to discuss these developments. Further details will be provided as they become available. For ongoing updates, please visit the EROP website.
