In a move to bolster various sectors across the state, Governor Josh Stein recently announced a series of new appointments to multiple North Carolina boards and commissions. These appointments reflect a diverse array of expertise and backgrounds, highlighting individuals engaged in fields ranging from education and law to technology and marine conservation.

Historic Hillsborough Commission Appointments

The Historic Hillsborough Commission welcomes four new at-large members, each contributing specialized skills and experience:

  • Kathryn Marie Senner of Durham County: Senner, a leader in educational and public garden organizations, brings a wealth of experience in fundraising and development from her roles at the Museum of Life and Science and Sarah P. Duke Gardens.
  • Sharon Billings of Orange County: With nearly 25 years in plant biotechnology research, Billings has also contributed significantly to local environmental and educational initiatives.
  • Kathleen Ferguson of Orange County: Ferguson, a professional in strategic proposals and contracts, has been actively involved in local governance, serving as a Hillsborough town commissioner for 13 years.
  • Wayne Buchanan Eads of Orange County: A seasoned criminal defense attorney, Eads brings over five decades of legal expertise, most recently as managing partner at Eads Law, PLLC.

Historic Murfreesboro Commission Appointments

Three individuals have been appointed to the Historic Murfreesboro Commission, each with notable contributions to their fields:

  • Sara Frances Hill of Orange County: A veteran in the medical field with over 35 years of experience, Hill has also been a key figure in local historical preservation efforts.
  • Mark Parker of Wake County: Parker, an information technology specialist, has invested in community support through educational scholarships and historical association leadership.
  • Kay P. Thomas of Hertford County: Known for her leadership in tourism and historic preservation, Thomas has played a pivotal role in regional festivals and educational outreach.

Other Notable Appointments

Governor Stein also announced appointments to several other commissions:

  • Nikitra S. Bailey of Wake County joins the North Carolina Credit Union Commission as a public member, recognized for her work in civil rights and economic justice.
  • Matthew R. Clarke of Hyde County is appointed to the North Carolina Marine Industrial Park Authority, bringing his experience as a commercial fisherman and marine conservation advocate.
  • Dr. Trishul Veera Allareddy of Chatham County and Dr. Chu Wang of Wake County join the North Carolina Radiation Protection Commission, each contributing expertise in the biological effects of radiation.
  • The Honorable Paul A. Lowe Jr. of Forsyth County will serve on the Roanoke River Basin Bi-State Commission, drawing on his legislative experience since 2015.
  • Multiple at-large members have been appointed to the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Commission, including Ed Turlington, Eddie Stuart, Avery L. Staley, Tommy Otis Fulcher Jr., Michael Hardison, Frank A. Hobart, Jonathan Barfield Jr., and John R. Clark III, bringing diverse backgrounds in law, education, public service, and community engagement.

Underground Damage Prevention Review Board Appointments

The board gains new members with expertise in telecommunications and transportation:

  • Grant E. Welch of Lee County: Representing the telecommunications industry, Welch is known for his advocacy in labor rights and broadband expansion.
  • Frank Zdelar III of Wake County: As a representative from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Zdelar contributes his engineering and construction experience to the board.
