I-295 Section Opens, Easing Travel South of Fayetteville

New Section of Interstate 295 Eases Travel South of Fayetteville

Traveling south from Fayetteville has become more convenient with the partial opening of a new section of Interstate 295. This development is expected to enhance accessibility and stimulate economic growth in the region.

On Wednesday afternoon, contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation removed barriers at the Camden Road interchange (Exit 7) near Hope Mills, marking a significant step in the ongoing construction of the Fayetteville Outer Loop.

“Today marks another milestone toward the completion of the Fayetteville Outer Loop,” stated Grady Hunt, a member of the N.C. Board of Transportation from Robeson County. “This is a critical corridor for our region of the state, for Fort Liberty and for continued economic growth and better highway access.”

The newly opened stretch covers a total of 6.3 miles, adding to the previously opened two-mile section from Parkton Road (Exit 2) to Black Ridge Road (Exit 4). Drivers can now travel from Camden Road onto I-95 South at Exit 38, located near the Cumberland County line in northern Robeson County.

Despite this progress, some ramps remain closed. Drivers on I-95 North cannot yet access I-295 in Robeson County, and the I-295 South ramps to I-95 North are also closed. These are slated to open next summer, concurrent with the completion of the I-95 widening project between mile markers 37 and 41.

Final Construction Phase

Currently, motorists on I-295 North must exit at Camden Road. The last phase of construction is underway to finalize the Raeford Road (Exit 12) interchange and establish the connection at Strickland Bridge Road’s Exit 11. This final segment will integrate with Camden Road and is anticipated to complete by spring 2026, culminating the 39-mile Outer Loop corridor project.

Further details about the I-295 project can be accessed on the NCDOT website.
