BLM Opens Public Comment on Nevada Oil & Gas Parcels for 2026 Sale

BLM Seeks Public Input on Proposed Oil and Gas Lease Sale in Nevada

In an effort to gather public perspectives, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced a 30-day comment period for a proposed oil and gas lease sale in Nevada. This initiative involves 14 parcels covering a total of 20,600 acres, with plans for the sale scheduled in September 2026. The public is invited to submit their comments by June 11, 2026.

Having completed the initial scoping phase in March 2026, the BLM is now focused on collecting public feedback regarding the parcels and the corresponding environmental assessments. This feedback will be integral to finalizing the review process for each parcel.

Leasing represents the initial phase in the development of federal oil and gas resources. Before any development can proceed, operators are required to submit a detailed application for permit to drill. The BLM oversees this process by reviewing permit applications, making them available for public review, conducting environmental analyses, and coordinating with state partners and stakeholders.

All parcels included in a federal oil and gas lease sale are subject to stipulations designed to protect valuable natural resources. For more information on current and upcoming BLM leases, individuals can visit the National Fluid Lease Sale System. BLM lease sales are conducted online via Efficient Markets.
