What’s New at the N.C. Department of Transportation This Week?
In an effort to keep North Carolinians informed, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) shares the latest updates and initiatives. This week, the focus is on vehicle theft prevention, technical training opportunities, and a prequalification campaign for contractors.
July is Vehicle Theft Prevention Month
Vehicle theft is a significant concern, with the National Insurance Crime Bureau reporting a vehicle is stolen every 33 seconds. To combat this issue, the NCDOT offers several tips to help protect your vehicle:
- Lock your vehicle
- Never leave your keys inside the vehicle
- Close your windows
- Park in well-lit areas
- Utilize your car alarm
For more detailed information on preventing vehicle theft, visit NCDOT.gov and search “Vehicle Theft.”
Upcoming Technical Training Series
This month, the NCDOT continues its Technical Training Series designed for small highway construction contractors. Courses will cover essential skills for those interested in NCDOT projects. Upcoming sessions include:
- Utility installation and adjustments in Fayetteville on July 11
- Utility installation and adjustments in Greensboro on July 25
To register for these courses or find future dates, visit the NCDOT website and search “technical training.”
Prequalification Workshop for Highway Construction
In an effort to prepare firms for collaboration with the NCDOT, a series of prequalification workshops will be held monthly until November. These sessions aim to assist firms in becoming prequalified for highway construction projects. The next meeting is scheduled for July 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the NCDOT Division 5 Traffic Services Office in Durham.
