Flint’s Sewer Department to Conduct Smoke Testing in Evergreen Valley
Residents of the Evergreen Valley area in Flint should prepare for smoke testing conducted by the City Sewer Department on Saturday, May 30. This initiative aims to detect any improper connections to the sanitary sewer system that may cause severe sewer overflows and flooding during heavy rainfalls.
The testing process will involve the release of smoke, which may be visible emanating from various sources such as catch basins, storm and sanitary manholes, plumbing vent stacks on residences, or any unauthorized connections to the sanitary sewer. In some cases, department personnel might need to enter private properties to examine smoke sources.
Residents are reminded that the smoke used is non-toxic, odorless, and non-staining, and it dissipates quickly. Prior to the scheduled testing, affected households will receive notification letters. Smoke infiltration into homes is possible if there is a dry trap or an improperly equipped waste pipe. In such cases, the smoke should disperse rapidly.
For any inquiries or concerns, residents are advised to contact the Water Service Center at 810-766-7079.
