Overcrowding at Dallas Animal Services: A Call for Community Support
Dallas Animal Services is currently experiencing a significant overcrowding issue, with its dog kennels filled to their highest capacity in years. As of Sunday, the facility housed 674 dogs in 388 kennels, including 67 nursing puppies with their mothers. The city is urging residents to consider adopting or fostering dogs to alleviate this situation.
Adoption or fostering is not only a compassionate act but also a crucial step in ensuring the safety and health of the dogs. Overcrowded kennels can lead to the spread of diseases among animals. Victoria Chittam Bennett, Assistant Director, emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “Our team is doing everything we can to manage the number of dogs in our care, but we can’t create space without the community. Every adoption or foster placement makes an immediate difference—not just for that dog, but for the next one who needs our help.”
Those interested in adopting can view available dogs on the Dallas Animal Services website, http://www.bedallas90.org.
