Discover Philadelphia’s Voice on Freedom: Join the “To Be Free” Project
As spring unfolds, an opportunity arises for Philadelphians to express their thoughts on a timeless question: “What does it mean to be free?” Dr. Guy Sims encourages residents to participate in this unique oral history initiative at 11 libraries across the city.
Philadelphia, a city with a storied past in shaping ideas of liberty, once again becomes a platform for discourse. The Free Library invites locals from every neighborhood to contribute to “To Be Free,” an oral history project that seeks to capture contemporary perspectives on freedom.
This initiative aims to create a time capsule, preserving the voices of today’s Philadelphia for future generations. Participants of all ages are welcome, with special provisions for children to express their views through drawings on coloring sheets, illustrating their vision of freedom.
“To Be Free” is among the numerous programs hosted by the Free Library, offering civic engagement opportunities throughout Philadelphia during the America250 celebrations. For more details on this project and other events, including exhibits, arts, and music, visit freelibrary.org/250.
