Philadelphia Libraries Seek Community Voices to Guide Future Directions
Philadelphia’s libraries are at the heart of community life, providing access to resources and fostering connections among residents. To ensure these institutions remain welcoming and relevant, the Free Library is calling for community members to join its Community Engagement Committee, a group that plays a crucial role in shaping the library’s future.
The committee, organized by the Library’s Board of Trustees, invites volunteers who can bring diverse community perspectives into discussions about the library’s role and services. Its mission is to maintain the library’s status as a vital community resource.
Your Role as a Committee Member
As part of the committee, members will:
-
Offer ideas and recommendations to align library services with community needs and interests.
-
Suggest strategies to enhance the library’s connection with the communities it serves.
-
Contribute to future library planning and engagement initiatives.
The library encourages applicants from various backgrounds and experiences. While prior committee experience is not necessary, the library values curiosity, community commitment, and collaborative spirit.
Commitment and Application Details
The committee convenes virtually for a 60-minute session every other month, with an expectation of up to two hours of engagement monthly.
If you are enthusiastic about community involvement and the significance of libraries, you are invited to apply. Please note, this volunteer opportunity is not compensated.
Applications are due by December 4, 2026, with notifications to selected applicants occurring in December.
