Western Blvd Closures for I-440 Bridge Construction in Raleigh

RALEIGH – A significant traffic alteration is set to take place on Western Boulevard as contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation commence overnight closures. These closures are part of the construction efforts for the new I-440 East bridge over Western Boulevard, contingent on favorable weather conditions.

The planned closures will impact the section of Western Boulevard stretching from just west of Chaney Road to east of Blue Ridge Road. The thoroughfare will be completely closed in both directions tonight and Wednesday night. On Tuesday and Thursday nights, only the eastbound lanes will be affected, with closures starting at 9 p.m. and roads reopening by 5 a.m. the following morning.

Eastbound travelers on Western Boulevard will be rerouted to a detour that directs them onto Interstate 440 West. From there, they will exit to Melbourne Road, follow I-440 East to Hillsborough Street, and finally take Gorman Street to rejoin Western Boulevard.

Drivers navigating through this work zone are urged to exercise caution and anticipate potential delays during these overnight operations.
