Tyler Younts Appointed as New Chairman of the North Carolina Industrial Commission

In a significant move for North Carolina’s labor landscape, Tyler Younts has been appointed as the chairman of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. His selection was announced by Labor Commissioner Luke Farley, highlighting a new era for the Commission.

Younts’ appointment was facilitated by the North Carolina General Assembly following a recommendation from House Speaker Destin Hall. The decision was a part of Senate Bill 1092, known as the 2026 Senate and House Appointments Act, which successfully passed the Senate with a 32-9 vote and the House with a 71-38 vote.

Bringing a wealth of experience in workers’ compensation and administrative law, Younts is well-prepared for his new role. His previous tenure at the Industrial Commission includes time as a law clerk and a six-year term as a deputy commissioner, where he adjudicated claims under various state acts.

Recently, Younts served as the deputy general counsel for litigation at the North Carolina Department of Labor, handling cases related to occupational safety, wage issues, and employment discrimination.

“Tyler Younts is an exceptional attorney, a principled public servant, and a proven leader,” noted Commissioner Farley. “Throughout his career, he has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the fair administration of the law and to serving the people of North Carolina with integrity. I have every confidence that he will lead the Industrial Commission with fairness, professionalism, and an enduring dedication to justice.”

In his capacity as chairman, Younts will act as both the chief judicial officer and chief executive officer of the Industrial Commission. His responsibilities include overseeing the enforcement of the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act and ensuring claims are resolved equitably.

“I am deeply honored by the confidence Commissioner Farley has placed in me,” Younts expressed. “I look forward to serving the people of North Carolina and working with my fellow commissioners and the dedicated staff of the Industrial Commission to ensure the fair, efficient, and impartial administration of the law.”

Younts is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and holds a law degree from Campbell University. His appointment is a testament to Commissioner Farley’s dedication to placing seasoned professionals at the helm of the Industrial Commission, ensuring it operates with integrity and excellence for the benefit of North Carolina’s workforce and employers.
