North Carolina offers $25,000 reward for leads in 1972 Mills murder case

North Carolina Offers Reward in Cold Case of Brenda Kay Mills

The mystery surrounding the tragic death of Brenda Kay Mills, a 19-year-old from Kinston, North Carolina, has prompted state officials to take significant action. Governor Josh Stein has announced a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for her murder.

Governor Josh Stein stated, “We must use every tool at our disposal to pursue justice for victims. I urge North Carolinians who have information about these cases to contact local law enforcement and help us provide closure to victims’ families.”

Mills disappeared on August 2, 1972, after leaving her residence in Kinston. Her body was discovered three days later in a wooded area of Lenoir County. While the condition of her remains prevented a definitive cause of death, it was noted that Mills had sustained a fractured jaw.

Officials are encouraging anyone with knowledge pertaining to this case to reach out to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 559-6100 or the State Bureau of Investigation at (919) 662-4500.
