North Carolina Health Department Reaffirms Importance of Childhood Vaccines

North Carolina Reaffirms Commitment to Childhood Vaccination Amid Executive Order

In response to the Executive Order issued on August 10, 2026, concerning childhood vaccines, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) highlighted the critical role of vaccinations in safeguarding children. The department is urging parents and caregivers to engage in discussions with pediatricians or healthcare providers about vaccination options.

Dr. Larry Greenblatt, State Health Director and NCDHHS Chief Medical Officer, emphasized, “Vaccinations play a vital role in protecting children, their families, and communities from the preventable spread of infectious diseases. Nothing has changed regarding the strong evidence supporting current vaccine recommendations, and vaccines remain widely available and accessible for individuals and families throughout the state. Individuals and families should speak with their provider about which vaccines are recommended and available to them.”

No alterations are anticipated in North Carolina’s current clinical guidance on childhood immunization. Vaccines can be obtained from a variety of sources, including private medical offices, community health centers, local health departments, and pharmacies. Additionally, the Vaccines for Children program offers free vaccinations to eligible children from birth through 18 years old at VFC-enrolled provider locations.

The NCDHHS provides a bilingual Childhood Vaccines Toolkit designed to aid healthcare providers and families in discussions about childhood vaccinations. This resource aims to equip parents with the necessary information to prioritize their children’s health.

Committed to the health and safety of children across North Carolina, NCDHHS continues to prioritize the availability of life-saving vaccines.
