NCRS Releases Tax Documents Early, Enhances Member Access and Security

North Carolina Retirement Systems Releases Tax Documents Ahead of Schedule

The North Carolina Retirement Systems (NCRS) has efficiently distributed 397,584 electronic 1099R and W2 tax documents for retirees and benefit recipients, well before the statutory deadline of January 31. This proactive approach highlights NCRS’s commitment to improving service delivery.

Under legal obligations, NCRS must issue these tax forms annually. This year, streamlined processes within the Retirement Systems Division allowed nearly 400,000 documents to be made available shortly after the holiday weekend, enhancing service efficiency.

Retirees and benefit recipients can securely access their tax documents by logging into their ORBIT accounts at ORBIT.myNCRetirement.gov. Until January 31, members can use their current login credentials. Starting February 1, access will transition to a new single sign-on system powered by ID.me.

“A top priority for our department is making things easier, safer and more efficient for our members. This early release of needed tax documents is just one example of how we are better serving North Carolinians,” stated Treasurer Brad Briner. “As we continue modernizing NCRS, enhancements to security, account access and overall system performance will further strengthen the administration of all programs.”

Ranked as the ninth largest public pension fund in the United States, NCRS is known for being one of the best-funded systems nationwide. It serves over 1 million North Carolinians, including teachers, state employees, local government workers, firefighters, police officers, and other public servants. The fund’s current valuation stands at $142 billion.
