Morganton, N.C. to Host “Storybook Holiday Parade” at JIRDC
The J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center (JIRDC) in Morganton, N.C. is preparing to welcome the community for its 49th annual holiday parade. Scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, this year’s theme is the “Storybook Holiday Parade,” promising an array of marching bands, fire trucks, and festive floats. The event will also feature a special guest appearance by Santa Claus, directly from the North Pole.
This year’s parade will be led by Grand Marshal Kyle Petty, a former NASCAR driver renowned for his work as a racing analyst, author, musician, and philanthropist. Petty, who hosts a digital series on Motorsports on NBC YouTube Channel and the Peacock app, is also known for his primetime series, “Dinner Drive with Kyle Petty.” In addition to his media career, Petty dedicates time to Victory Junction, a nonprofit offering transformative camping experiences for children with serious medical conditions in North Carolina. Kyle is recognized as the son of NASCAR legend Richard “The King” Petty.
In a bid to accommodate all guests, including those sensitive to loud noises, JIRDC has designated a “Quiet Zone.” This area, marked by lime green tape, will be positioned just past the circle drive, between the Ninja Turtles and 101 Dalmatian displays, ensuring a peaceful environment for everyone.
The JIRDC annual holiday parade is set to resume with enthusiasm after previous events, followed by the illumination of holiday lights, which will be on display from 5:30 to 10 p.m. daily until Dec. 31. All are invited to join the celebration.
Organizers have ensured that the parade is festive, accessible, and secure for all attendees. Starting at noon, one-way traffic will be implemented around the center’s perimeter, with personnel guiding visitors to appropriate parking spots. Handicapped parking will be clearly marked, and prohibited parking zones will be identified. Traffic control personnel will be on hand to facilitate smooth traffic flow on campus.
Access to the grounds will be regulated, with the second entrance closing at noon and the front entrance restricting non-emergency traffic from 2:30 p.m. Parade participants will receive specific instructions upon arrival. As in past years, roadside parking on Enola Road will be prohibited, and visitors are encouraged to utilize on-campus parking due to limited space caused by ongoing construction.
Parents are advised to plan meeting points with their children post-parade and ensure young children are not left unattended.
